EXHIBITION @ LIGHT+BUILDING FRANKFURT
The “Cloud” light sculptures create a magical atmosphere by filtering the light magnificently due to their 3D origami textile structure. The sculptures, designed and produced for Lightnet, will be revealed at Light+Building in Frankfurt from 3-8 March.

SAMIRA BOON VISITS FUJI TEXTILE WEEK & FUJIYOSHIDA'S WEAVERS
In the context of FUJI TEXTILE WEEK 2023, Samira Boon will be visiting Fujiyoshida’s weaving factories. She discovers various local textile makers, investigates their unique techniques, and explores future opportunities and collaborations in light of the latest advancements in textile technology.

BIOFOLD EXHIBITED AT DETOUR DESIGN FESTIVAL HONG KONG
BioFold is exhibited at the annual DeTour Design Festival in Hong Kong. BioFold is part of Biobased Creations' newest installation Craft by Nature, which exhibits furniture and building materials made from local nature.

EXHIBITION @ PALEIS SOESTDIJK
Two of our projects, the SOLARS and Archi Folds, are part of the exhibition 'Women of Soestdijk'. The rich history of the palace, for the first opened to the public, is accompanied by the work of contemporary Dutch designers and artists, who add an extra layer of creativity to the exhibition.

We were invited to be part of the new research group New Textile Ecosystems initiated by ArtEZ, Saxion, and AUAS. In collaboration with various governments, manufacturers, and consumers, we will accelerate the transition to a sustainable textile value chain.

XPO EVENT: KEYNOTE SPEECH BY SAMIRA BOON
Samira Boon was invited to give a keynote speech at the XPO Event of the Interior Design Department at the Saxion University. She spoke about the synergy between space and users, and how to make interior more flexible, dynamic and sustainable.

3D TEXTILE FACADE FOR LUXURY BRAND HERMÈS.
The Hermès Shanghai Qiantan Taikoo Li store recently opened its doors. Studio Samira Boon was commissioned by the Parisian architecture firm RDAI, responsible for the interior design of Hermès worldwide, to create a site-specific artistic facade. Read more about the project here.

MITT JAG DANCE PERFORMANCE

ART THE HAGUE EXHIBITION
In September 2021, Moon Gallery Foundation exhibited Microgravity Show stand at Art the Hague, joining the Dreamland exhibition, curated by Niek Schoenmakers. Moon Gallery presented projects that were selected for the International Space Station Mission, featuring our sculpture Sprout among other nature-inspired artworks.

DESIGN BY NATURE EXHIBITION
From the 10th of July 2021 until the 3rd of October 2021 ’Design By Nature’ exhibition, including our Kombutex and BioFold, was held at the Museum de Fundatie in Zwolle. The show was curated by Biobased Creations to showcase the beauty and possibilities of a new, circular and biobased economy.

LABS MEETUP #3
During the third meetup for LABS: Future Interiors, Samira Boon and Raoul Frese presented the pilot interior product “KOMBUquet” (see also: 3. Presentation DDW). By engaging in a discussion with architects and industry professionals, we started to formulate future scenarios for uptake of the material in real projects. Read more here.

We are honoured to announce BiOrigami as the winner of the Architizer A+Awards in the acoustics category. This unique series of 3D acoustic elements is composed of textile waste from jute coffee bags.

PROJECT GRANT FOR BIONIC LACE
The new research project BIONIC LACE received a grant for “Contemporary Use of Crafts” from the Creative Industries Fund NL. For BIONIC LACE we collaborate with lace artist Margreeth Heijs and Touwslagerij Steenbergen to implement our shared vision of a lightweight and energy-efficient structures of the future by developing 3D laces.

LABS MEETUP #1

BioOrigami as a part of Landscape of Applied Design Research exhibition during DDW 2019 all week at Klokgebouw | Hall 3 | Strijp-S. On Wednesday 23 October @16.30 our research icw HvA will be explained in the special Speakerscorner in hall 3 of the Klokgebouw.

CONFERENCE EPSC-DPS GENEVA
Our research for Hortus Bionica was presented at the conference of European Planetary Science Congress and Division for Planetary Sciences of American Astronomical Society, Centre International de Conférences de Genève (CICG). We had an inspiring time meeting and exchanging ideas with e. g. NASA, ESA, DLR.

EXHIBITION TECHTEXTIL IN FRANKFURT
Studio Samira Boon has been invited to be part of the showcase exhibition “Urban Living – City of the Future” from 14-17 May 2019 at Techtextil and Texprocess in Frankfurt. The exhibition examines the role that textiles and textile composites can play in the future of cities and highlight an array of outstanding examples of urban textile innovations from the Netherlands.

GRANT FOR HORTUS BIONICA
We received support from the Creative Industries Fund NL to further develop our ideas for adaptive textile structures by incorporating sensor and smart technologies i.c.w. SensorLab Utrecht. Under the name Hortus Bionica we will research and test different types of sensors to develop an organic, sustainable architecture.

How to shape the design process enabling circular material flows? Anna Sitnikova, our Product Development Engineer, will give a presentation during the Textile 4.0 Conference in Amsterdam. The conference is part of Innovate Textile and Apparel Europe 2018.

DRIVE FESTIVAL DURING DUTCH DESIGN WEEK
How to create added value for waste materials using digital production techniques? Samira Boon and Anna Sitnikova will give a talk during the Dutch Design Week as part of the ClickNL DRIVE Festival on 25 October, 11:30h at Natlab, Eindhoven. They will give you an inside on our research project BiOrigami.

The winning research project BiOrigami is a collaboration between the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (Mark Lepelaar and Annelies de Leede), Studio Samira Boon and NEXT architects. It will explore the potential of applying origami techniques to new biocomposite materials.
